Patrick and Sivan Dumont are the new controlling owners of the Dallas Mavericks. The couple purchased the remaining shares held by Miriam Adelson last month, bringing their collective ownership to 69 percent of the franchise. Adelson, who is Sivan Dumont's mother and Patrick Dumont's mother-in-law, had held the stake following the team's sale in 2023.

The ownership group formed in November 2023 when former owner Mark Cuban sold his majority stake for $3.5 billion. Cuban, who owned the team from 2000, retained a 27 percent share in that transaction. Under the original agreement, Patrick Dumont holds the right to buy an additional 20 percent of Cuban's interest at the original $3.5 billion valuation. Cuban has previously stated that he is frustrated by his exclusion from basketball operations and has hinted at possible legal action.

The Dumont family addressed the change in control in a statement to FOX 4. They said they are committed to building a championship team and supporting local fans. The family also expressed enthusiasm about growing the organization's impact in the Dallas community through continued investment.

The team has faced substantial operational changes since the Dumonts joined the ownership group. In June 2024, the Mavericks reached the NBA Finals before losing to the Boston Celtics in five games. In February 2025, the team traded Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, a move that led to a drop in the team's win-loss record and fan morale. The Mavericks finished the 2025 season with a 26-56 record.

Personnel shifts continued in the following months. General Manager Nico Harrison was fired in November 2025 despite the team drafting Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. The Mavericks hired Masai Ujiri as President of Basketball Operations and Dusty May as head coach. The roster now centers on Flagg and Kyrie Irving.

The franchise is also preparing to leave the American Airlines Center. In June, the team announced plans to construct a new arena and entertainment district at the site of the former Valley View Mall in Far North Dallas. The new venue is expected to be completed by 2031. Rick Welts, formerly of the Golden State Warriors, is helping lead the site selection process and will retire from the team at the end of this year.
