Luka Doncic is averaging 43.4 points per game over the last five contests, a streak that includes Monday night's 138-117 victory over the Miami Heat. The Los Angeles Lakers guard finished the game with 42 points, 13 assists, and seven rebounds. This marked his fifth straight game of scoring at least 37 points.
The current form follows a busy schedule for the Lakers. The team played on Friday, then defeated the Toronto Raptors on Sunday with a 45-point, 15-assist effort from Doncic. Despite the back-to-back games, the 26-year-old maintained his offensive output against Miami.
The game turned decisive in the second half. Doncic had 24 points at halftime and added nine more in the first four and a half minutes after the break. That run extended the Lakers' lead to 93-74. Miami did not close the gap during the remainder of the contest.
Supporting players kept the offense moving while the star rested. Austin Reaves scored 27 points, and Walker Kessler recorded a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. Reaves took over some offensive responsibility during the fourth quarter.
The Heat struggled to find rhythm during their road trip. Giannis Antetokounmpo led Miami with 30 points, 12 rebounds, and seven assists. Klay Thompson added 19 points, and Bam Adebayo scored 16. The loss marked Miami's fifth defeat in its first seven games of the season.
The visit also offered a moment for Heat president Pat Riley, who received a loud ovation from Lakers fans when his face appeared on the scoreboard. The franchise unveiled a statue of the Showtime-era coach outside the downtown arena last season.
Both teams return to action on Wednesday night. The Lakers will travel to Sacramento, while the Heat head to face the Los Angeles Clippers.
