Jesús de Miguel Alameda, the 30-year-old striker for CD Tenerife, died on November 3 after suffering injuries during a match against FC Andorra.
The collision occurred on November 2 when de Miguel attempted to contest a ball in the air. FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono left his penalty area to clear the play. As Owono jumped, his knee struck de Miguel in the chest, sending the striker to the ground.
Medical staff attended to the player on the field before transporting him to Hospital Universitario Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria. He remained in the Intensive Care Unit until the club announced his death at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 3.
CD Tenerife has organized a public mass in his honor for November 7 at 6:00 p.m. The service will take place at Estadio Heliodoro Rodríguez López, the same venue where the accident happened. Club executives, players, and local officials will attend the ceremony.
De Miguel’s widow and their toddler daughter, Carla, who is one and a half years old, are expected to participate in the memorial. The club stated that his wife will play a central role in supporting the family during the farewell events.
The body of the former striker will be transported from Tenerife to Navahermosa in the province of Toledo, Spain. His family requested the transfer so the private burial could take place near their relatives. The transfer awaits official authorization, and the CD Tenerife management plans to travel to Toledo to accompany the family.
The Cabildo, the regional government of the Canary Islands, declared an official day of mourning. Fans have gathered at Gate 9 of the stadium to leave flowers, candles, and messages in memory of de Miguel.
