The trial of Markies Conway, the rapper known as Yella Beezy, entered a new phase on Friday as jurors heard testimony linking him to cash and a hotel stay in 2020.
A Federal Reserve Bank of New York official presented photos of money with recorded serial numbers. The evidence connects specific bills to the alleged murder-for-hire plot that resulted in the death of Dallas rapper MO3.
A West Hollywood hotel employee also took the stand. The witness confirmed that Conway was listed as an additional guest on a reservation made in November 2020. That month marks the time of MO3's murder.
Mount Pleasant police officer Juan Hernandez testified about a traffic stop involving co-defendant Kewon White. Hernandez stated he recovered guns, drugs, and just under $10,000 in cash during the stop.
Hernandez told the court he believes the cash was deposited the next day. He noted that he typically does not write down serial numbers during such stops.
Prosecutors allege Conway paid White and another man to kill MO3. White was convicted in September and sentenced to life in prison. The state must now convince the jury that Conway directed the payment. The trial is expected to last two to three weeks.
