Fifteen new tracks from North Texas musicians aired on the KXT Homegrown Music Show on Thursday, October 29. The special Halloween edition featured a mix of indie rock, metalcore, and shoegaze acts from Dallas, Denton, Fort Worth, and Plano.
Denton band Drive Thru Society led the metalcore offerings with "The Fight" from their debut album, Thresholds. The track features Cory Brunnemann of Through Arteries and addresses the theme of fighting for a marriage. The band is scheduled to perform at the Finding Hope Music Festival at Grace Church in Haltom City on Saturday, November 7.
The show paid tribute to Guyton Sanders, a founding member of the Vandoliers and a drummer for various projects, who died this week. The station played "Burn," a 2019 collaboration between Remy Reilly and the Vandoliers. Denton artist Tonya And The Hardings also received a spin for "Alarma" ahead of their October 31 show at Andersons Distillery in Denton.
Several artists made their KXT debuts during the hour. Plano composer Jeff Thrower, operating as Wave Vendors, premiered "Beef Naps" from his self-titled debut album. Dallas singer Mitchell Zenick introduced "Burden," a cinematic indie track. Zenick described the song as a message to anyone who feels like a burden to those they love, stating, "I want them to walk away knowing that they are NOT a burden."
Other local acts included Mesquite songwriter zirin, who debuted "So Hypocritical." The 19-year-old picked up guitar during the 2020 pandemic and also works as a painter. Fort Worth shoegaze band Trauma Ray aired "Bishop" before beginning a 29-show tour with Turnover. Their North Texas stop is set for November 6 at The Bomb Factory.
The playlist also included Deep Blue Something's "Who Put Bella In The Witch Elm?" and Rosegarden Funeral Party's "Blame and Burden." Dallas band The Roommates played "Evil People" from their latest EP, while Denton group Atomic Rainbow offered "UFO (From Planet Rainbow)," a dystopian sci-fi psych track available only on Bandcamp. The KXT Homegrown Music Show airs weekly on Thursdays from 7 to 8 p.m.
