STAR Transit Offers Free Election Day Rides

STAR Transit will cover the cost of bus and van trips to polling places for registered voters on Tuesday, November 3.

The free ride offer applies to round trips within the agency's service area. This region includes all of Kaufman County and Rockwall County, along with specific cities in Dallas County. The Dallas County locations covered are Seagoville, Balch Springs, Mesquite, DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, Hutchins, Lancaster, and Wilmer.

Tommy Henricks, the STAR Transit Executive Director, stated that the agency often hears from riders who want to vote but lack transportation. Henricks said the free rides are a simple way to help neighbors participate in the upcoming local elections.

Voters can use any STAR Transit service to qualify for the discount. This includes Demand Response, Fixed Routes, and the STARNow app-based service. To ride for free, a passenger must tell the bus operator or reservationist that the trip is to or from the polls. Riders using the STARNow app must enter the code Vote1126.

Rides are subject to availability and must start and end within the designated service area or STARNow zone. Passengers must schedule a ride at least 30 minutes before the desired departure time. Scheduling agents are available by phone from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, at (877) 631-5278. Spanish-speaking assistance is available for those calling to book a ride.

The STARNow app is available for free download on the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Voters can find specific polling location details on the websites for Dallas County, Kaufman County, and Rockwall County.
