The Nancy Guthrie Task Force traveled to Florida this week to consult with laboratory scientists on DNA evidence.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the trip in a statement posted to X on Friday. The team met with lab experts to determine what additional steps could be taken to advance the investigation.

Sheriff’s officials noted that a number of ideas were discussed during the meetings. They emphasized that the task force continues to work with all partners to solve the case.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, in February. Federal authorities described the incident as a kidnapping for ransom. Guthrie is the mother of TODAY co-host Savannah Guthrie.

The case has entered its ninth month with few new public updates. In late July, federal law enforcement announced that hair found during the investigation did not link to any potential suspects.

Savannah Guthrie posted an image of her mother on Instagram in August to renew her appeal for public help. She wrote, “There is a hole inside us that can never be filled. There is an ache that cannot be softened,” she wrote. “And there is a determination in us that cannot be quenched - to find out what happened to her, so that we can give her the dignity of a proper goodbye - a celebration of her remarkable life that she so deserves.”

The sheriff’s office reminded the public that no tip is too small. Investigators said even the smallest piece of information could be critical. Residents can call 88-CRIME or 1-800-CALL-FBI to report details.
