Michael Angel Garcia, 37, will spend the next five decades in a Texas prison without the possibility of parole. The Prosper resident faces a 50-year sentence for continuous sexual abuse of a child, a verdict delivered by a Collin County jury this week. A separate 20-year sentence for sexual assault of a child will run concurrently with the primary term.

Garcia served as the softball coach for his victim, a girl he met when she was six years old. He abused her continuously until she turned 14. On August 25, 2025, family members and medical staff alerted police after discovering the teen was pregnant. DNA tests confirmed Garcia was the father of the baby.

Detective Seth Cockerham with the Prosper Police Department executed a search warrant at Garcia’s home. He collected DNA evidence that matched the victim's forensic interview conducted at the Collin County Children’s Advocacy Center. Investigators also found search history on Garcia’s phone for information on how to interrupt a pregnancy. He was arrested in Hillsboro, Texas, while attempting to cross the border into Mexico.

District Attorney Greg Willis announced the conviction and sentencing on Wednesday. Judge Richard Davis presided over the trial. Under state law, the continuous sexual abuse charge carries a mandatory life-without-parole structure, though the jury recommended the 50-year term which aligns with the maximum for the specific counts.

“This man used his position as a youth softball coach to sexually abuse a minor for years, starting when she was six years old,” Willis said. “The abuse continued until the minor became pregnant with his child.”

The defense argued that the relationship was consensual, but the jury rejected that claim after hearing testimony from the victim and the detective. Garcia was held in the Collin County jail pending transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The next phase of the case involves the civil suit filed by the victim’s family seeking damages for medical and psychological costs. A hearing on that matter is scheduled for November 15 in the Collin County District Court.
