A 50-year-old woman was arrested Monday for leaving four children home alone in Kissimmee while she traveled to Las Vegas.
Osceola County deputies arrived at the residence on October 21 after a 911 caller reported that a 9-year-old boy had been injured by a falling dumbbell. The caller was one of the children at the home. Deputies found four kids, ages 14, 12, 11, and 9, with no adults present.
Paramedics transported the injured boy to a nearby hospital for treatment of an apparently minor injury. While the boy received medical care, deputies contacted Irene Miller by phone. Miller told the deputy she was working in Las Vegas and planned to return on October 23, 2026. The sheriff’s office confirmed Miller had left for the trip on October 18, 2026.
Miller stated that she arranged for a babysitter from Tampa to arrive in the mornings to get the children ready for school and to check on them after school. She did not require the sitter to stay overnight. The children were taken to their father’s home. Detectives met Miller as she exited her flight in Kissimmee on Friday morning.
Miller was booked into the Orange County Jail on four counts of child neglect without great bodily harm. A search of jail records on Monday showed she had been released. Sheriff Chris Blackmon said the office will not tolerate child neglect. "These cases will be investigated, and charges will be brought against the parents who are not properly supervising or caring for their children," Blackmon said.
Kissimmee is located near Orlando, approximately 70 miles east of Tampa. Miller could not immediately be reached for comment by NBC News.
