Two teenagers face aggravated assault charges following a shooting at a South Dallas house party on October 4.
Dallas Police arrested 17-year-old Martin Padilla on October 20. A 16-year-old juvenile was taken into custody on October 14. Both suspects are charged with six counts of aggravated assault. The specific count involves discharging a firearm at an occupied building.
The incident occurred in the 1400 Block of South Barry Avenue. An arrest affidavit states that a group heard about the party on Instagram and arrived to attend. Security guards at the home entered into a verbal argument with the guests. The guards told the group to leave.
As the group departed in a Volkswagen SUV, two occupants identified in the affidavit as "50" and "Dylan" pulled out weapons. They opened fire toward the security guards. A guard told police that Padilla, who was driving the vehicle, also fired a weapon. The SUV crashed into a pole nearby. The occupants fled the scene on foot.
Padilla was apprehended at J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson. He remains in the Dallas County Jail on a $600,000 bond. Police have not released the identity or arrest location of the 16-year-old juvenile. The identities of "50" and "Dylan" are also unknown.
Six people were hospitalized after the shooting. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening. Angela Seaton lives near the location of the shooting. She told the Dallas County Herald that the neighborhood experiences parties and violence on a weekly basis during weekends.
Seaton said her family has begun staying away from the area due to the frequency of incidents. "I have grandkids that don't come over anymore because that's how not safe it is, and we can't keep doing that, you know," Seaton said.
