Residents of Oak Cliff in Dallas County have launched a neighborhood-wide outdoor art exhibition to revitalize local Halloween traditions. The project, known as Front Porch Gallery, displays elaborate decorations at participating homes, creating a public gallery that encourages community engagement.

Carina Arellano, founder of Oak Cliff Concepts, initiated the project after observing online complaints from residents about a decline in trick-or-treating activity. She created a digital platform that allows neighbors to register their homes for the event. The collaboration aims to restore a cherished local custom by centralizing information about decorated properties.

Paola Gone of Hello Oak Cliff is assisting with the promotion of the displays. She is documenting the installations and inviting visitors to cast votes for their favorite entries online. Gone described one specific installation that features creepy clowns and characters from the film The Exorcist. She noted that the display was so intense that she was unable to walk to the porch without pausing in surprise.

Not all participants focus on horror. Elvie De La Fuente is using her yard to host a Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, tribute. Her display includes handmade Mexican Catrinas wearing costumes she has been designing since January. The centerpiece of her setup is an altar dedicated to loved ones who have passed away.

De La Fuente stated that the display serves multiple purposes for visitors. Some come to observe the craftsmanship, while others use the space for grief and remembrance. She recalled parents visiting the site to remember two girls who died in an accident two years ago. Another visitor was seen crying and praying near the altar.

The homeowner invites visitors to bring a cell phone and take photographs of the display until midnight. De La Fuente said the setup provides a place for reflection, remembrance, and celebration. She emphasized that the deceased are not forgotten and that the family thinks about them every day.

The Front Porch Gallery project combines these varied displays into a single community effort. The initiative connects residents through a shared digital platform and physical tours of decorated homes in the Oak Cliff neighborhood.
