Journalists from the Daily Mail entered a storage apartment rented by Thomas Markle in Rosarito Beach, Mexico, after he failed to pay the rent.
The unit is located near the man's former residence. Reporters from the New York Post and Page Six stated that the space contained items linked to suspected child abuse.
Items found in the apartment included books about pedophilia and magazines showing minors as victims of sexual abuse. The team also documented family mementos and photographs.
Specific digital media included 35mm negatives with explicit sexual content, seven hard drives, and more than 50 video tapes. Photographs of nude Asian women and negatives of a tied-up woman were also described.
A paper plate with the words "DARK WEB" and several handwritten URLs sat among the objects. The Daily Mail reporters filed a complaint with the FBI following the discovery.
The FBI did not respond to requests for comment. Representatives for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry also did not issue statements at the time of the report.
This finding follows a separate investigation in the Philippines against Markle, who is 82. His son, Thomas Markle Jr., 60, said he found hundreds of images of child pornography in their father's home in Cebu on October 22.
Thomas Jr. Said that he was horrified and had no choice but to report his father. He described an abandoned LG phone containing a 15-minute video of naked girls aged 10 or 11.
A technician recovered additional images from a hard drive, showing minors in sexual acts. The FBI stated it would support Philippine authorities and investigate potential federal violations.
Jonvic Remulla, the Philippine Interior Secretary, said that forensic analysis of the material would be ready within a week. He noted that the case involves family disputes and that current evidence points to a possible sex offender.
Markle has previously denied owning the images, calling the accusations "sick lies." He currently resides in a Florida rehabilitation center after losing a leg.
Meghan Markle said she was "deeply saddened" by the news and supported the alleged victims. She acknowledged prior claims against her father that led to a family distance starting in 2017.
