More than 51 million Americans have already cast their ballots in the 2026 midterm elections, a total that exceeds the turnout recorded in the 2022 contests.

The University of Florida’s Election Lab, which tracks early voting data across the nation, reported the figure on November 1, 2026. The organization’s records show that 28,133,515 of those ballots were cast in person at designated polling locations.

The remaining early votes were submitted through mail-in ballots that had already been returned. Approximately 40 million additional mail-in requests are still outstanding and have not yet been counted.

These pending ballots may be added to the official tally before the general election day concludes. The Election Lab’s data indicates that current early participation is higher than the approximately 46 million people who voted before election day in 2022.

If the current trend continues, the total number of early votes in this cycle will surpass the previous midterm high. The data reflects activity leading up to the November election, with millions of Texans and residents of other states having already completed the voting process.
