Seven people were injured in a single burst of gunfire near a Deep Ellum 7-Eleven early Sunday morning. Dallas police arrested David Yancy, 31, on Wednesday evening at his apartment in Garland. He faces seven counts of aggravated assault in a mass shooting.
An arrest warrant affidavit indicates Yancy expressed a desire to turn himself in. Jail records confirm he is currently booked into Dallas County jail. The arrest came hours after police released edited surveillance video from the scene, asking the public to help identify the suspect.
The shooting occurred around 1 a.m. in the back parking lot of the convenience store. Witnesses told investigators that a man in red clothing entered the lot, pulled out a handgun, and fired at another man dressed in dark clothing. A shootout followed. Bystanders sustained gunshot wounds to their hands, feet, shoulders, torsos, and pelvises.
This incident was the second of three separate shootings reported in Deep Ellum within a 75-minute window on Sunday. The other two shootings resulted in four deaths. Victims identified by authorities include Anthony Tyrone Martin, 25; Isaiah Boling, 20; Unique Elise Benjamin, 28; and Kaniesa Scott, 21.
Earlier on Monday, authorities announced the arrest of Treyveion Demby for unlawful possession of a firearm.
