José Eduardo Derbez said on October 29 that the laughter from his partner Paola Dalay at the August 27 premiere of 'Hotel Todo Incluido' was aimed at a press-line crush, not at co-star Sofía Castro.
Derbez addressed the moment during an episode of his podcast 'Mixologoando', where guest Gema Garoa asked him about the red carpet. He said that behind the scenes he told Castro she had arrived late, then added compliments about her appearance. He said Paola Dalay did the same.
Derbez explained what happened once they reached the media area. "There was a lady at the end of the red carpet, part of the press, and they were pushing and pushing her against the barrier," he said. "I saw that lady, and just as Sofía was coming, I was telling Paola, 'Poor lady, they're pushing and pushing and pushing her,' and she turns and laughs."
The exchange drew attention after the August 27 premiere and led to speculation that Dalay had mocked Castro's look. Derbez said the interaction he described occurred behind the scenes, and that the moment that drew attention happened in the area where the press was gathered.
Derbez released the episode of 'Mixologando' on October 29, with Gema Garoa as guest. The premiere of 'Hotel Todo Incluido' took place on August 27.
