The Jesuit Rangers lost 35-34 to McKinney at Ranger Stadium on Monday night.

The outcome mirrored a recent loss to Prosper Walnut Grove on Oct. 8, where a successful 2-point conversion secured a 50-49 overtime victory. This time, the Rangers failed on that final attempt with 16 seconds remaining in regulation.

The game remained close throughout, with both teams exchanging leads to reach scores of 7, 14, 21, and 28 apiece. McKinney’s T.J. Corbett rushed for all five of his team’s touchdowns, gaining 249 yards on 32 carries. His final 31-yard score with 2:31 left broke a 28-28 tie after a 13-play drive that consumed 5:48 of clock. Jesuit responded late when senior running back Ty Daboub carried the ball 26 times for a career-high 194 yards and three touchdowns. Wide receiver Joseph Konings caught nine passes for 91 yards and two scores, including a 39-yard reception on fourth-and-14 from J.P. Livingstone that cut the deficit to one point with 16 seconds left.

Jesuit head coach Brandon Hickman said the team chose to go for the win on 2 points rather than kick for one. He noted that McKinney’s defense allowed the opportunity and that the Lions simply outplayed the Rangers. Hickman specifically cited Corbett’s speed and ability to break tackles as key factors in the loss.

McKinney quarterback Blaze Barr completed 20 of 31 passes for 206 yards. Jesuit quarterback Livingstone went 21 for 38 for 182 yards but threw two first-quarter interceptions. The loss gives Jesuit a 4-5 overall record and a 4-3 district mark. McKinney improved to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in district play.

Jesuit now faces Prosper Rock Hill on Thursday in a winner-take-all contest for the final district playoff spot. Allen, Prosper, and Prosper Walnut Grove have already secured post-season berths. The winner of the Jesuit-Rock Hill matchup will join Walnut Grove in Division II, while Allen and Prosper will head to Division I.

Jesuit is attempting to secure its eighth consecutive playoff appearance. The team must win Thursday’s game against Rock Hill, which currently holds a 5-4 overall and 3-3 district record.
