The National Football League, Apple Music, and rapper Jay-Z announced on Monday that Jay-Z will perform at the Super Bowl LXI halftime show. The game is scheduled for Feb. 14, 2027, at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California.
The news broke during the Monday night game between the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. Apple Music posted the announcement on social media, calling the rapper the 'GOAT.' In a statement, Jay-Z reflected on his career path. 'From “Reasonable Doubt” to standing on the Super Bowl halftime stage, this has been a journey,' he said. He described the moment as 30 years of music, work, and culture landing on the world’s biggest stage.
Roc Nation, Jay-Z’s company, has produced the NFL’s halftime show since 2019. The organization recently signed a five-year extension that keeps them in charge through 2029. Since taking over production, the halftime shows have shifted their focus more heavily toward hip-hop and rap. Last year’s performance at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, featured Bad Bunny, with special appearances by Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.
Previous Los Angeles-based halftime shows also featured major hip-hop acts. The 2022 show included Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar, with guest appearances by 50 Cent and Anderson .Paak. Recent performers also include Kendrick Lamar and SZA in 2025, Usher in 2024, and Rihanna in 2023.
Despite his long relationship with the NFL and frequent collaborations with previous performers, Jay-Z has never headlined the Super Bowl halftime show before. The 25-time Grammy winner has spent this year on a tour celebrating the 30th anniversary of his debut album, “Reasonable Doubt,” and the 25th anniversary of “The Blueprint.”
The “Jay-Z 30” tour started in July with three nights at Yankee Stadium. It continued in September with two shows in London and one in Paris. His final scheduled concerts will take place on Oct. 23 and 24 at SoFi Stadium. These dates serve as a direct rehearsal for his upcoming Super Bowl performance.
