Brooklyn’s Ocean Parkway is a busy six-lane boulevard. On Feb. 3, an FBI agent drove the wrong way down its center lanes, blew through a red light, and hit a pedestrian. Federal prosecutors unsealed an indictment against Andrew Reyes on Thursday, detailing the crash and the subsequent cover-up.

Reyes, 30, was a resident of Brooklyn and a former Special Agent. Court documents state that he had his vehicle’s emergency lights activated as he sped against traffic. The impact knocked the pedestrian to the pavement. Reyes exited the car, dragged the unconscious man from the street, and left his bag on a nearby bench. He then drove away, leaving the victim in the road.

The case gained traction when investigators questioned Reyes about unreported accidents. He told them he had never struck a person. The indictment charges him with willfully depriving an individual of constitutional rights while acting under color of law. It also includes a count for making false statements.

Reyes was taken into custody on the morning of Nov. 5. His attorney, Federal Public Defender Nora Hirozawa, announced a not guilty plea. She declined to provide further details at the scene. His arraignment was set for later that same day in U.S. District Court.

U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella issued a statement describing the conduct as a disregard for human life. He said the charges send a clear message that no one is above the law. The prosecution emphasized that those who abuse their position of trust will face prosecution. The victim has not been named, and his current medical condition remains unknown.

The FBI did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding Reyes’ employment history or current status. Court papers list him as a former agent, but the bureau has not clarified when his service ended. The government car used in the crash was part of the agency’s fleet.
