Frederick Douglas Haynes III won the election for Texas' 30th Congressional District on Monday. The Democrat defeated Republican Everett Jackson. This result keeps the district under Democratic control after redistricting changed the map for the 2026 midterms.
The redrawn district covers most of southern Dallas County and a small part of Tarrant County. Haynes succeeds the former representative, who left her House seat to run for the U.S. Senate. The seat has been open since January 2023, when the previous holder first took office.
Haynes leads Friendship-West Baptist Church, a congregation with more than 13,000 members. He spent decades in Dallas working on civil rights, social justice, and economic empowerment. His campaign focused on economic opportunity, voting rights, and criminal justice reform.
His opponent, Everett Jackson, had no prior political experience. He ran in a district that historically votes for Democrats. Jackson criticized the former representative and supported spending cuts tied to the Department of Government Efficiency. He also advocated for stronger national security measures.
Haynes enters Congress as a first-time federal lawmaker. He brings background in religious leadership and community advocacy to Washington. The victory marks a transfer of power in the 30th District following the recent boundary changes.
