South Hi Mount Elementary students and staff will move to a different Fort Worth campus starting Tuesday, Dec. 1, following an on-site engineering assessment of their current building. District officials described the relocation as a precautionary measure after the assessment raised concerns about the existing structure.
The entire school is moving to the vacant Western Hills Primary building at 8300 Mojave Trail. Principal Dr. Elizabeth Foreman White stated in a message to families that the new location provides the necessary space for the elementary school. Officials did not specify the exact nature of the engineering issues found during the assessment.
To manage the transition, the district adjusted the school calendar by adding two student holidays. These breaks allow teachers and staff time to pack belongings and prepare classrooms at the temporary site. The updated schedule lists Friday, Nov. 20, and Monday, Nov. 30, as holidays for students.
Classes will resume on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Western Hills Primary building. Dr. White told parents in the written message that the school’s focus remains on providing a consistent and engaging learning experience during the move. She acknowledged that the news might bring questions and concerns for families.
The school is holding a parent meeting on Monday, Nov. 9, at 5:30 p.m. to answer questions and address concerns. The meeting will take place in the cafeteria at the South Hi Mount Elementary building before the move is completed.
The information comes from a message shared by Fort Worth ISD and the school principal with families. The current building section was cleared of the school population as part of the precautionary plan.
