New Jersey defeated the Dallas Stars 5-1 on Tuesday night, ending the Stars' five-game winning streak. The victory marked the first win for goaltender Connor Hellebuyck since April 9.

Hellebuyck stopped 16 of 17 shots on goal. He started four days after the Winnipeg Jets traded him following a suspension for missing training camp. The three-time Vezina Trophy winner had not won a game since beating St. Louis 3-2 in April.

Nico Hischier scored twice for New Jersey. The captain provided a 2-0 lead at 2:41 of the first period and added another goal 38 seconds into the second. The Devils' challenge for goaltender interference on the first goal was denied. Hischier now has seven goals this season.

Jack Hughes, Luke Hughes, and Jesper Boqvist also scored for New Jersey. Luke Hughes answered a goal by Justin Hryckowian just 28 seconds later in the second period. The Devils have won four straight games.

Casey DeSmith made 22 saves for Dallas. The Stars allowed five goals, which is the most they have given up against any opponent this season. Dallas entered the game with a 1.68 goals-against average, the best in the NHL.

Dallas defenseman Kyle Capobianco left the game with an apparent leg injury five minutes into the third period. He did not return to the ice. The Stars' penalty kill was 3 for 3, extending their streak of successful kills to 22 over six games.
