U.S. Senator Ted Cruz pledged to rebuild his party after Democrats seized control of both federal chambers and swept statewide races in Texas during the 2026 midterm elections.
Cruz released a podcast episode on Wednesday to explain the results. He stated that Republican candidates lost votes because they failed to understand how rising living costs affected voters. He specifically pointed to increased gas prices, grocery bills, and insurance premiums as the factors that drove constituents to abandon the GOP.
The senator also addressed foreign policy, calling for an end to the Iran war. He argued that the conflict should have been brief and decisive.
Cruz said he contacted James Talarico to offer congratulations. He said he looks forward to working with the new governor to benefit Texas. Cruz stated he will fight to protect the state from policies that open the border or raise taxes.
The senator urged Republicans to champion economic policies that improve the lives of working people. He noted that voters were unaware of two recent legislative wins: Trump accounts and the Education Freedom Tax Credit. He described those measures as generationally powerful.
Cruz concluded by stating that Texas will be red again.
