Sosie Bacon to Star in MGM+ Horror Series

MGM+ has secured a second lead for its upcoming supernatural drama. Sosie Bacon will join Nikolaj Coster-Waldau in the series adaptation of the hit podcast The Black Tapes.

The eight-episode first season is scheduled to start production in Vancouver in January. Coster-Waldau will portray Dr. Richard Strand, a psychiatrist with a mysterious background. Bacon will play Alex Regan, a physicist who joins the investigation as a skeptic. The official logline states that Strand and Regan work together to debunk paranormal cases involving hauntings and disappearances. As they analyze the evidence, they uncover a hidden occult world and a centuries-old conspiracy.

Regan is described as a methodical scientist who initially approaches the cases with strict scientific training. She eventually finds that the mounting evidence points to forces beyond the natural world. The character serves as a counterpoint to the more intuitive approach of the other main character.

Bacon recently completed filming for Season 2 of Scarpetta for Amazon. Her previous television credits include Mare of Easttown, Narcos: Mexico, and 13 Reasons Why. In film, she starred in the horror features Smile and Smile 2. She will also appear in the horror-comedy Family Movie. That project is directed by and stars her parents, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon.

Terry Miles and Paul Bae created the original podcast. They will serve as writers and executive producers for the television series. Kearie Peak of Peak Pictures and John Rogers and Jennifer Court of Kung Fu Monkey Productions are also attached as executive producers. MGM+ Studios will handle production duties. Bacon is represented by Gersh, Range Media Partners, and Schreck Rose.
