Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., posted a video on Friday showing a calm walk along a Minnesota lake. The clip was set to a loud Somali hip-hop track that promises enemies will scatter and be crushed. This marks her first public appearance in nearly two weeks following a federal search of her Washington home.
The video shows Omar and her husband, Tim Mynett, strolling across a dock. Fall foliage is visible in the background. The pair smiles, chats, and looks at each other while Omar holds a coffee cup. The post ends with a montage of images from their walk. Omar wrote on the social media platform X, "Less scrolling, more strolling. Enjoying our beautiful Minnesota lakes."
The song accompanying the video is titled "Nimaan Ciilayba Icaaya." It is performed by Ilkacase Qays, whose real name is Muse Abdikadir, and features Somali singer Hodan Abdirahman. His website describes him as a U.S. based Somali singer, rapper, and activist.
A translation of the Somali lyrics says, "Let me reveal who I really am. No enemy dares threaten me, wherever I step, they scatter." The lyrics continue, "They flee and stay far away. I have always been the source of their distress."
Further lines state, "A fool’s words carry no weight. Those I have angered now insult me." The singer asks, "If the just one had felt anger on my behalf, would he not have crushed the enemy underfoot?" He adds, "With the strength the almighty has given me, If I draw on it late in the afternoon, by evening, I will have taught you a lesson."
A cultural analysis of the song describes it as an example of Somali lyrical poetry built on pride, bravery, and personal dignity. The analysis notes the artist uses exaggerated imagery to ridicule opponents. It portrays them as people who lose sleep and suffer humiliation. One line says, "You go without sleep, overcome with anguish, weeping in spite."
Omar returned to Minnesota on Friday after staying out of the public eye since Oct. 12, 2026. On that date, agents from Homeland Security Investigations searched her home in Washington, D.C. During the search, federal agents confiscated her passport and cellphone.
On Friday, media members followed Omar as she cast an early ballot in Minneapolis. She voted alongside state Attorney General Keith Ellison. Afterward, the pair visited the Karmel Mall of Somalia in Minneapolis. They ate lunch with members of the Somali community and posed for photographs.
Omar restricted who could respond directly to her social media post. The only public comment was from former U.S. Rep. Cori Bush, who wrote, "We love this."
Omar is under investigation for potential fraud related to immigration paperwork filed by her or her father during her citizenship process. Her sister, Sahra Noor, was interviewed by federal investigators after the raid. Federal agents also obtained Omar's DNA. Border czar Tom Homan said last week that Omar could be denaturalized if fraud is proven.
